W. Bro. John Bonomy Celebrates 50 Years of Mark Masonry

Tuesday 20th March was a very special day at the Folkestone Lodge of Mark Master Masons No.380, when Bro. Paul Parish was advanced into the Mark degree by W. Bro. Ivor Spencer in the presence of our Provincial Grand Master, RW. Bro. Archie Torrance and both of the Past Provincial Grand Masters, RW. Bros. Roger Croucher and Roland Wade plus a large number of very distinguished brethren.

W. Bro. John Bonomy Celebrates 50 Years of Mark Masonry

The extensive list of distinguished brethren had gathered at Folkestone's Grace Hill masonic centre to help W. Bro. John Bonomy OBE PGJW PPGSW celebrate his 50 years as a Mark Master Mason.

RW. Bro. Archie Torrance gave an excellent review of John's masonic career - he was advanced into the Folkestone Lodge on 9th March 1968, becoming Master in 1976. John then went on to join Kent Installed Mark Masters Lodge in 1976, the Grand Stewards Lodge in 1986 and was a Founder of Kent Mark Stewards Lodge in 1992. He attained the rank of Past Grand Junior Warden in 2005.

In the Royal Ark Mariner degree he was elevated into Sandgate's Amherst Lodge in 1979 becoming Commander in 1988 and was appointed to R.A.M. Grand Rank in 1995.

During this time he also served as Provincial Grand Master for the Masonic Province of East Kent for twelve years from 1992 to 2004.

In response W. Bro. John spoke most interestingly, especially in respect of the seven Mark Provincial Grand Masters he has served during his half-century in the degree.

The Lodge is in rude health with W. Bro. Ivor having advanced both of his sons at the previous meeting and is planning an extraordinary meeting in May for another double advancement.
