Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Kent
151st Annual Festival for the Mark Benevolent Fund

On Saturday July 6th our close neighbours and friends in Sussex celebrated the culmination of the 2019 and 151st Annual Festival for the Mark Benevolent Fund  in the sumptuous surroundings of the Hilton Metropole Hotel on Brighton's iconic seafront.

The event was hosted on behalf of the MBF by the Provincial Grand Master for Sussex, RW. Bro. Martin Wilson, where it was announced that their magnificent efforts raised the wonderful sum of £1,352,563 for the Mark Benevolent Fund during their Festival.

As you would expect a large contingent from Kent crossed the border, more than 30 in fact, including:

  • RW. Bro. Archie Torrance - Provincial Grand Master
  •
  • VW. Bro. Fred Brown - Deputy Provincial Grand Master
  •
  • W. Bro Ian Gallehawk - Assistant Provincial Grand Master
  •
  • W. Bro Perri Ahmet - Assistant Provincial Grand Master
  •
  • VW Bro. David Green - 2020 Festival Chairman
  •
  • W. Bro. Roger Odd - 2020 Festival Result & Gala Dinner Co-ordinator
  •
  • Bro. Peter Lapage 2020 Festival Treasurer
  •
  • plus many other members of the Executive and our our charity team and their families
An incredible amount of detail went into the whole Festival Finale Weekend with plenty of time set aside for visitors to spend in and around the city, including a ‘flight’ on the British Airways i360, just opposite the Metropole which was entirely appropriate as RW. Bro. Martin Wilson was formerly a BA airline pilot.

At a gathering of many of the Kent party before the evening's events our Provincial Grand Master was delighted to present Mrs Steph Spencer, the wife of our Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies W. Bro. Ivor Spencer, with her MBF Patron Award. As can be seen here wearing it with understandable pride.

The Festival function took the form of a drinks reception and gala dinner followed by the announcement of the £1.35m Festival Result by the Honorary Secretary of the Mark Benevolent Fund RW. Bro. Ryan A. Williams, (Grand Secretary). Dancing followed to the band ‘Take Five’. Alternatively, guests could enjoy all the fun of the fair - dodgem cars, candy floss, mixed sweets and ice creams. It is reported that the PGMs for the Mark Provinces of Kent and Surrey were rather competitive on the dodgems!

As we approach the final push towards the closing stages of our own 2020 Festival, in 11 months time at the spectacular Maidstone Exhibition Hall, on the Kent Showground in Detling, this wonderful weekend gave VW. Bro. David Green and his team much to think about as well as some interesting ideas.
