Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Kent
Amherst Mark Lodge Sponsor Jon Meyer to run the 2020 London Marathon

January 23rd saw the Amherst Mark Lodge hold their regular meeting at Sandgate, where 35 Brethren and guests received an excellent talk on the Mark Man and Mark Master Mason given by W. Bro. Robert Preston.

Pursuant to a notice of motion given at a previous meeting W. Bro. Brian Ward proposed that £500 be given to the 2020 Festival in response to a letter received from the Provincial Grand Master asking all lodges in the Province to support W. Bro. Jon Meyer who is running in this year's London Marathon in support of the Festival. This motion was duly seconded by W. Bro. Barry Devereese and approved by the Brethren of the Lodge.

A cheque for £500 was then presented to W. Bro. Jon by the Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Leigh Marshall. Jon thanked the Master and the Brethren for their generosity and said he would be delighted if anyone would like to accompany him on any of his early morning training runs. This request was greeted by total silence! Undeterred by the underwhelming response Jon informed the brethren that his training was going well and he was delighted to inform them that with the kind donation from the Lodge, his total sponsorship now stood in excess of £2,000. This includes sponsorship by 19 Lodges in the Province as well as sponsorship through his Virgin Money Giving page.

Jon was also pleased to announce that he was hoping further money would be raised from the Quiz Night he is holding at the Sandgate Masonic Centre on the 31st January and the Sunday lunch also being held at Sandgate on the 15th March.

Before sitting down Jon invited the Brethren and the guests of the Lodge to take part in guessing his finishing time for the Marathon at £1 a go. The winner would receive a bottle of Scotch donated by Jon.
