Amherst Mark Lodge Quiz Night

At the end of January, Amherst Mark Lodge No. 266 held a quiz evening at the Masonic centre in Sandgate to raise sponsorship for W. Bro. Jon Meyer who is running in the 2020 London Marathon in support of the 2020 Festival.

The quiz was attended by forty five people all eager to show off their quizzing skills but most importantly to support Jon in achieving his sponsorship goal of £2,000 for the 2020 Festival. Eight teams then battled through six rounds of questions set by Jon based mainly on marathons or running.

As the final round loomed with no clear winner identified the raffle was drawn before it was thinking caps on again for the final round. After what seemed an eternity the winners were announced in reverse order accompanied by a great deal of heckling and good-natured banter from all assembled. Eventually 'The Mad Hatters' captained by Toni Ward emerged as the triumphant winners and were presented with their just rewards.

Jon then thanked everyone who had attended the evening, especially the support he had received from neighbouring lodges such as Folkestone Mark 380, Invicta Mark 378 and Shorncliffe and Hythe Mark 767. He then thanked Jooles, his lovely wife, for providing the food free of charge and to her waitresses who had given their time freely to help make the event such a huge success. He then took to opportunity to invite everyone back to the next Marathon fund-raising event which will be a Sunday Lunch held at the Sandgate Masonic Centre on the 15th March.

Finally Jon, always one to leave the best till last, was delighted to announce that the event had raised a total of £700.
