Provincial Grand Almoner

Our Provincial Grand Almoner is W. Bro. Peter Hayler.

Provincial Grand Almoner

His main role is to provide general assistance and advice to the brethren of our Province and their dependents. Most cases are initially raised by Lodge Almoners, though requests for assistance may arise from other sources. The Provincial Grand Almoner is able to assist those needing assistance in the following ways:
  • Provision of advice and assistance with regard to Medical or Financial support. Provision of advice and assistance to Lodge Almoners.
  • Provision of guidance on the submission of applications to Masonic and non-masonic Charities.
  • Liaising with the Provincial Grand Treasurer regarding arrangements for payments to beneficiaries.
  • Visiting Lodges in our Province to publicise the workings of Masonic Charities. Provision of facilities for brethren, or anyone acting on their behalf, so that personal problems can be discussed in strictest confidence.
  • Acting for brethren in applications for relief to the Trustees of the Kent Mark Benevolent Fund, Mark Benevolent Fund and Prov.G.M.’s Discretionary Fund.
  • Acknowledge and mark happy events such as births, marriages, anniversaries, etc. Make hospital visits and attend funerals as appropriate.
  • Any brother of our Order needing assistance, or a dependent of such a brother, should contact his Lodge Almoner without delay and inform our Provincial Grand Almoner, remembering that speed of response is essential.
The Provincial Grand Almoner publishes newsletters that are sent to every Lodge Almoner to keep them up to date with news from within our Province and from Mark Masons Hall.

Provincial Assistant Grand Almoner - Colin Walker
Given that the 2020 Festival for the Mark Benevolent Fund closed on the 13 June 2020, we no longer have a need for a Provincial Assistant Grand Charity Steward role. We have therefore introduced instead a new Provincial Assistant Grand Almoner role to add extra resilience to our welfare team. Lt. Col. Colin Kinnaird Walker MBE OBE P.Prov.G.Stwd. of Crane Lodge No. 1157 has been appointed as the first person to hold this office and will work closely with the Provincial Grand Almoner to ensure that the Brethren and their dependants have access to all necessary support.
