North  Kent’s  Ellenor Hospice  is celebrating receipt of a £5,000 grant from the Mark Benevolent Fund as a result of nominations from local Mark and Royal Ark Mariner Lodges. Ellenor  care  for and support  families facing life limiting illness in Kent.

It is the only charity in the county that provides hospice care for people of all ages,  including pain and symptom relief, palliative care, end of life care, respite, bereavement support and emotional and spiritual care.

Its Children €™s Hospice Care is provided in the comfort of the family home and spans across Gravesham, Dartford and Swanley. Adults living in Gravesham, Dartford and Swanley receive care in their place of choice; including their own home, at the hospice in Gravesend or a local care home.

The donation, which is part of the Major Capital Grant of £1.3m to over 250 hospices in England, Wales, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, recognises the contribution made by HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh to the service of the Crown and the life of the nation.

R.W. Bro Archie Torrance said, €˜We are absolutely delighted that the members of the Province have chosen to support Ellenor. It is only too apparent the toll that the pandemic has taken on charities across the country and hope that this small gift will go some way to help enhance patient care and provide improved facilities for those in need and their families”.

Jemma Kemp from Ellenor welcomed the donation saying, €œThe past  year has been such a challenge and now, more than ever, we are truly touched and  extremely grateful to receive generous donations from our local community. We have  no doubt that the effect of the pandemic will have an impact on our community for  many years to come. However, our vision remains the same and this is for all  families facing terminal illness to receive the best quality, personalised care, and  support. We simply couldn €™t continue to provide this care and support without  people like you. This wonderful donation will help us to continue to be at the  sides of our patients and their families €.
