The personal picture that causes great mirth within the family, records the aftermath of a minor accident which took place in my angelic youth, aged 3, at my Grandparents home in Holloway.

My first representative role was as a team member at my village school in Wilmington. We competed in the Borough schools road safety quiz. Although we reached the final we were unable to claim the ‘belisha beacon’ trophy.

My first full time employment was with the City of London Police. This ended when I moved to the London Fire Brigade where I enjoyed a particularly good career.

My commitments to Scouting, The Royal Life Saving Society and the Firefighters Memorial Trust have kept me ‘employed’ for many hours throughout my life.

It was in the 2013 Birthday Honours list, that I took great pride in accepting appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire for ‘Public and Charitable Services’.
