Following the recent appointment of W. Bro. David Stiff, P.G.S.D. as an Assistant Provincial Grand Master, it has been necessary to identify a replacement for him in his current role. I am therefore delighted to announce that I have invited W. Bro. Stephen Michael Hyland, Prov.Dep.G.D.C. to be our Provincial Grand Secretary and he has accepted.
His appointment will take effect from the scheduled date of our annual meeting on 26 September 2020 and I look forward to investing him when it is safe to do so.

Steve was born near Dudley in the West Midlands and grew up in the new town of Telford in Shropshire. He is married to Bianca and they have two sons and a cat.

Steve joined the Royal Engineers at the age of 18, where after initial deployments he specialised in civil engineering and project management, spending a very enjoyable 9 years traveling to many countries where he was part of a team building roads and airfields. Steve and his family moved to Kent in the late 90’s when he was posted to Maidstone and have made the county their home ever since. In 1999 Steve joined the Civil Service; he has worked for various departments including the Prison Service, Home Office, Ministry of Justice and more recently the Dept. for Education, where he manages the construction of a number of new schools in the South East.

In his spare time Steve loves travelling, he is also a passionate golfer and he says he hopes one day to be good at it.

He was initiated into the Craft in Beauchamp Lodge No. 1422 in 2002, where he is the current Master. Steve was Advanced into the Manor of Bexley Lodge No. 1448 in 2010 and served as Master in 2014; he is currently the Treasurer of both the Manor of Bexley Mark and R.A.M Lodges. Steve became a founder member of Fore Cantia Lodge No. 2002 in 2019 and is currently serving the Lodge as its second Master. He is also a member of Kent Installed Mark Masters’ Lodge No. 999 and the Kent Installed Commanders’ Lodge No. 999. He was appointed a Prov.A.G.D.C. in 2017 and Prov.Dep.G.D.C. in 2019.

I am sure you will wish to join me in congratulating Steve on his appointment and wishing him every success in his new role. I am sure you will give him your fullest support and will join me in wishing him well in this challenging new role.

Yours aye,
Archie
