On January 15th our Provincial Grand Treasurer W. Bro. Nick Waller visited the Morecambe Masonic Centre to witness his cousin initiate his son into the Torrisholme Lodge.

The Provincial Grand Master, RW. Bro. Archie Torrance, presided supported by VW. Bro. David Green, Deputy Provincial Grand Master and Assistant Provincial Grand Masters VW. Bro. Fred Brown and W. Bro. Ian Gallehawk.

Whilst in the robing room one of the photographs on the Wall leapt out at Nick as he had spotted a very young John Edmondson, who was an Assistant Provincial Grand Master in The Mark Province of Kent from 1988 to 2007.

RW. Bro. John Edmondson was Advanced into Mark Masonry in the Morecambe Mark Lodge No 716 in his native Province of West Lancashire in the 11th December 1950, and did not become a part of our Kent Province until he Joined Dover and Cinque Ports Lodge No 152 on 14th April 1967, becoming Worshipful Master in 1976 and joining the Kent Installed Mark Masters’ lodge that same year.

John was a Founder of Runic Lodge, which meets in West Lancashire, his Mother Lodge being Lodge of Fortitude in Lancaster. At the time the photograph had been taken he had already through the Chair in Fortitude and was Runic’s Charity Representative.

Posting the photographs on our Provincial Facebook Page, Nick commented, “Many of us knew John in various orders, and he is sadly missed, but it is great to come across some of his history by accident.”

You can read more about RW. Bro. John’s illustrious Masonic career from this 2011 news article which reported on his receipt of a certificate marking 60 years as a Mark Master Mason.
